Dawn, cold and unrelenting

I look back

I see you

In all of your blind pain

Grasping at ideas thrust into your palms

Holding tightly to someone else’s ideals

Didn’t you know

That fragile things can break

Like my thin bones

Malnourished, begging silently for love

I learned long ago not to speak

Words were avenues to pain

Words were for other people

So I held it all in

Now I’ve ripped them out

Like dark weeds

Let them see the light

And I can only laugh

Because finally, I’ve won
