Thorn

The boy stood by the tree

Propped to stout wood

The girl, as if underneath

Peered curiously

As sparrows pecked at his hands

“Say, do you know, there is a thorn in your hand?”

“Say, do you know, there is a thorn in your eye?” he answered

They laughed together

Until sorrow overtook them

Then cried loudly

Kissing sadness

Eyes weeping red

Until love whispered

At their ears

“We are one of the same, a thorn here, a thorn there” he said

She agreed, motioning to Venus riding in the sky

Releasing the arrow that stood ready

Thighs warm with lust

Wet with mingled tears

Lay down my lover

I am strong and hard

Between your legs

Like the beat of the horse

We will spill the seed

Into the pungent soil

Lest we beget sorrow like us

We will sigh into the night

A thorn in mine hand

A thorn in thine eye
